Origis Energy Continues Development of Solar in the U.S., Breaks Ground on 19 MWAC Solar Power Plants in Georgia
Four Georgia Companies Selected to Build Two of the State’s Largest Utility-Scale Projects
ATLANTA, October 3, 2013 — Origis Energy, a developer of solar power facilities around the world, announced that on-site construction has begun on two solar power plants with a combined capacity of 19 MWAC. The first and largest project (16 MWAC) is located on a 150-acre site in Camilla, Georgia in Mitchell County. The second project (3 MWAC), which started construction shortly thereafter, is located on a 30-acre site in Woodbury, Georgia in Meriwether County. Subsidiary Origis Technics will serve as general contractor of the projects and several Georgia-based companies will build the facilities, including Radiance Solar, United Renewable Energy, Oxford Construction and Georgia Power Services.
These facilities will be among Georgia’s first large-scale solar power plants and both should come online by December 2013. As part of one of the company’s solar initiatives, Georgia Power will purchase the output from both solar plants over the next 20 years. “Origis Energy is delighted to bring these solar power facilities to Georgia, Mitchell County and Meriwether County,” said Johan Vanhee, COO & Partner, Origis Energy. “These solar power plants are the latest in our plans to expand in the U.S. and we expect to make similar announcements in the near future.”
Radiance Solar (www.radiancesolar.com) as main subcontractor of Origis Technics USA will lead the design and engineering team and will be the DC contractor for the 16 MWAC Camilla solar plant. Jamie Porges, COO of Radiance Solar says “We are thrilled to be a part of a milestone project that demonstrates the viability of solar power in Georgia.”
